
Doug Hall’s immersive two-screen video installation challenged the familiar picture-postcard vision of the Golden Gate with a pair of contrasting perspectives. Emphasizing the monumentality of not only the Golden Gate Bridge, but also the massive container ships that pass beneath it, the installation revealed the bridge as part of an environment that is at once natural and human-made.

Born in San Francisco, Doug Hall has developed a diverse practice that includes performance, installation, video, and photography. A longtime teacher at the San Francisco Art Institute and a visiting artist at California College of the Arts, Hall is represented in the collections of major museums including the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, The Museum of Modern Art in New York, Berlinische Galerie in Berlin, and Museum für Moderne Kunst in Vienna.
